Artistic Statement

A non-linear realist of artistic life

South East-based storyteller from Hackney with Greek-Cypriot roots. Through Theatre, Film and Television, I am compelled to develop narratives that speak about mental health, cultural and gender stigmas within under-represented communities like mine.

Where is our cultural record in the UK of being Cypriot, working-class women? I found little existing representation about my community yet, post-war we were one of the largest ethnic communities in London.

Recent work includes my first industry supported live action short film, Loose Strands. Inspired by my mother's experience of her psychosis. It was an official selection at Aesthetica and won Best Short Film at Saturn Returns Film Festival. I am currently developing my next short that addresses the impact of community stigma on a grieving mother.

Stories are powerful and therapeutic

Whilst I am keen to develop my own projects, I am driven to collaborate with other female directors to take my view of the world and develop compelling, global and cinematic stories.

Through my work, I aim to raise much needed discussions within families and our broader communities.

If I can change one person's stigma towards another human being, then I've done good work.
